Freelance Invoice Format: What to Include Before Sending to Clients
A clear invoice helps freelancers look professional and get paid faster. Your invoice does not need to be complicated, but it should include the right details.
Basic invoice fields
- Freelancer or business name
- Client name and contact information
- Invoice number
- Invoice date and due date
- Service description
- Quantity, rate and total
- Payment method
- Notes or terms
Good service descriptions
Use simple descriptions such as Website landing page design, Monthly social media management, Product photo editing or SEO content writing.
Payment terms
Clearly mention whether payment is due immediately, within 7 days, 15 days or 30 days. If you use advance payment, include the paid and remaining amount.
Create an invoice
Use the Invoice Generator to create invoices online. Freelancers can also use the Free Freelancer Tools hub for pricing, UTM links, QR codes and signatures.
Tip
Save a copy of every invoice and use consistent invoice numbers to keep your records clean.
